WHERE?  WHEN?  WHAT?

The choir is held at St Machar’s Cathedral on Friday evenings during local school term-time. Practice takes place from 6:15 - 7:30pm.

It is free to attend.

The choir is a great way to meet new friends whilst improving skills such as; pitch awareness, diction, breathing, posture and listening. We start with exciting warm-ups and follow with a range of fun songs.

We sing songs from:

The choir is sometimes invited to sing at Sunday church services, where we get to wear a blue robe. Choir members who don’t feel comfortable singing at services do not have to attend.

We have also occasionally been requested to sing at weddings where all the members were paid!

There is always at least one other adult at rehearsals and sometimes we work with the Conductor of the Senior Choir.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What if I'm not sure if I want to join?

Some people come to try out the choir and leave if they decide it's not what they were looking for. That's fine - at least they gave it a go! It's free anyway, so all you're giving up is your time.

What if I find it too difficult?

You may find it a bit difficult at first, but because you're part of a group it doesn't matter if you don't sing in rehearsals when you're not confident. If you come to regular rehearsals, you'll soon start to pick it up and will gain confidence if you're surrounded by other singers.

Do I have to be religious?

No! It is a church choir, but the main focus is the singing - the Sunday School is the one that focuses on worship. It is up to you whether you join in with the prayers, and you don't have to agree with everything the Minister says! Even if you're not religious, services can be very interesting because you learn about new things.

What if none of my friends want to join?

Don't worry about coming along on your own - lots of choir members did that at first. You'll make friends quickly as everyone in the choir is very approachable.

When you join at the start, you will be placed next to someone of a similar age so you can start to make new friends.

I'm a boy - can I join?

YES PLEASE! It is always more difficult to recruit boys. Boy’s voices (called treble voices) can be very pure and clear, which is why everyone wants them to join their choir!

It makes it easier for a boy to join an adult choir when his voice breaks if he has had vocal training from a young age.
